Offer us a brief history about your band that may not be found in your bio supplied to us via your website.
I had been considering creating a tribute band to the music of the Traveling Wilburys off and on for decades. The thing that made me pull the trigger on the idea was the passing of Tom Petty in October of 2017. It took about a year or so to find the best tribute artists for each of The Wilburys and to learn all the songs we needed to put a show together. But when it was all said and done, we knew we had something special.
What is the most interesting experience or story that you and your band have had over the time of your playing together?
When you are playing town after town, you meet a lot of interesting characters, and you encounter a lot of interesting scenarios! I’d say one of our most interesting was when we met the former president of the Beatles Official Fan Club from Britain. After the Beatle years, she had moved to Canada, married, had kids and retired just outside of Toronto. She approached us after a show with nothing but glowing remarks about the performance and about the person who plays George Harrison. In her words, “I’ve seen a lot of people try to capture what George was all about – his wit and talent – but I’m really impressed with the authenticity in which your George (Jerry) delivered on all counts”.
Tribute bands have become tremendously popular throughout the country and there are many covering the same original bands. What about your tribute band makes you stand out from the others that are out there?
There are very few tribute bands that cover The Traveling Wilburys. The ones that do, only play their songs. They do not put on a performance with a member dedicated to each of the 5 Wilburys - complete with original instrumentation and outfits. Only we do that. And we have five of North America’s top tribute artists each performing as one of the Wilburys. Plus – a full support band of seasoned studio musicians. It’s a formula that makes us unique and makes our performance unforgettable.
What is your favorite song from your repertoire and why? Do you play the same set list at each concert?
When you take the catalogue of The Traveling Wilburys and then you add in the work of each member individually including The Beatles, Electric Light Orchestra, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan, there is such a massive depth and breadth of songs that it is really very difficult to choose a favorite. There are so many huge hits. Because of the variety of songs available, we like to switch them up every now and then to keep things interesting.
Anything new and exciting on the horizon for your group?
As a matter of fact, being in Florida for these two weeks and playing a multitude of Florida venues IS new and exciting. We are playing a significant amount of places outside of Canada. It’s great fun.
Is there anything else you would like people to know about you/your performance?
Just come and be prepared to be entertained. To laugh. To wonder and awe. To take a stroll down memory lane. To let loose. And to be a part of a good time all around. There are far too many people in this world who will complain about this and that and the drop of a hat. This is not the place for those people! Enjoy!
